Kara Foodservice

Part of the Fletchers Bakery Group, Kara Foodservice has a rich history. Their Manchester plant opened in 1985 as a burger bun factory producing buns for Wimpy and became part of Kara Foods two years later.
While still recognised for the quality of its bread buns, consolidation under new owners Northern Foods in the late 1990s took in Fletchers Bakeries whose bakery heritage stretched back to the 1920s. As one company within Northern Foods, and with production facilities in Lancashire, Yorkshire and London, the group expanded into both retail and foodservice.
After being sold by Northern Foods in 2007, Fletchers Group of Bakeries split into 4 separate business units with Kara Foodservice based in Manchester being a dedicated manufacturing site for foodservice products and the home of the groups foodservice activities set up to provide total focus on providing an easy access, one-stop-shop for UK and European foodservice customers.
Maurice Young Consulting has undertaken specialist assignments regarding the effects of ‘frost heave’ beneath existing low temperature facilities and the design, fire management and specification of new low temperature storage facilities for Kara Foodservice.
More recently Maurice Young Consulting has been employed by Kara to carry out ammonia hazard and risk assessments concerning compliance with the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
